NEW EXPLOSION-PROOF LINEAR ACTUATOR PSF-EX

The new explosion-proof actuator PSF-EX is a further product development of the latest linear actuator series PSF/PSF-M with mechanical fail-safe function or manual override.

Bad Duerkheim. PS Automation GmbH extends its latest linear actuator range PSF/PSF-M with mechanical fail-safe function or manual override by an explosion-proof model. The prototype of the new model PSF-EX will be introduced at the Valve World Expo 2016 in Düsseldorf for the first time.

In order to meet the growing demand of the market as well as to enhance the portfolio, PS Automation GmbH has further developed their latest linear actuator series PSF/PSF-M. Now, the PSF model is also available as an EX version with an explosion-proof enclosure. The new PSF-EX is determined for use in dust- and gas-explosive areas classed as zone 1 & 2 or 21 & 22.

The PSF-EX is equipped with two compression housings that enclose the motor compartment and the control electronics. This encapsulation serves as an ignition protection measure. It makes sure that potential sources of ignition, e.g. sparks which may develop within the actuator do not lead to explosions in the ambient plants. This explosionproof actuator of PS Automation meets explosion protection requirements for electrical equipment, equipment group II, equipment category 2 acc. to Directive 2014-34-EU (ATEX).

Explosion protection will be also available for the actuators PSF-M with manual override in the near future.

INFO

Explosive atmosphere (acc. to ATEX/IEC)

Zone 0
… an area in which an explosive gas atmosphere is continuously present, for long periods or frequently.

Zone 1
… an area in which an explosive gas atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation occasionally.

Zone 2
… area in which an explosive gas atmosphere is not likely to occur in normal operation but, if it does occur, will persist for a short period only.

Areas with flammable dust

Zone 20
… describes areas in which a dangerous, explosive atmosphere in the form of a dust cloud in the air is present continuously, for long periods or frequently. Dust layers of known
or excessive thickness may form.

Zone 21
… describes areas in which a dangerous, explosive atmosphere in the form of a dust cloud in the air is likely to manifest occasionally.

Zone 22
… describes areas in which a dangerous, explosive atmosphere in the form of a dust cloud in the air is unlikely to manifest and will only persist for a short period if it does, or in which deposits or layers of flammable dust are present.
